An exhibition of paintings by Raymond Legaspi will be held at Ayala Musuem on March 25 - April 8, 2008 where his wonderful work in which he uses dasters as canvases within a canvas depicts scenes from his memories of Silay, in Western Visayas, where he spent much of his formative years and where he currently resides after spending 20 years in Manila as creative director for advertising giants like Ogilvy & Mather, J. Walter Thompson, and Arc Worldwide.

Raymond remembers most of the titas and lolas in his hometown of Silay as a group of happy, relaxed, and contented women who were always dressed in the ubiquitous daster and "Le Chic" sandal combination, a staple attire of the older women of a city that held the distinction being called the Paris of Negros in the early 1900s.

Raymond uses vibrant impressionistic colors and rich textures to portray his subjects dressed in colorful dasters, as they go about various poses and activities endemic to provincial settings where time seems to stand still or at least inexplicably slow down to a crawl. Most of his paintings are a reflection of real lives of real people in Silay, captured on canvas by an artist whose 20 year exile from the place he never stopped calling home has given him the perspective of an observer that is made unique by his intimate knowledge of the place and its people that only a local can possess.

Raymond is a multi-awarded advertising and design creative and was formerly the Executive Creative Director of Arc Worldwide. His job has brought him to several countries in Asia, Europe and the United States visiting museums and art galleries inspired him to pursue painting. Born 1964 in Silay City, Negros Occidental. He graduated at the University of Santo Tomas Collage of Fine Arts.
