The moment Marian Rivera got the much coveted role of Marimar, nasty rumors already started going around for the half-Spanish, half-Filipina actress about not fitting into the role. Marian, according to her detractors, is nowhere near the persona of the sexy Mexican character that once captured the hearts of the Filipinos.
But when the program’s formal launch in August 2007 came, a different and definitely more beautiful Marian appeared before the viewers’ surprised eyes. Marian was so captivating that she has successfully silenced all her detractors. And as GMA Network Chairman, President and CEO Felipe L. Gozon said, she is indeed “GMA’s BIG STAR!”
And now with her pictures all over the Philippine newspapers, stunning Marian has already received invitations from various men’s magazine asking her to grace their covers. But Marian has graciously turned down their offers but would not close down her doors on the possibility that she would one day appear on the covers of one of them.
However, Marian says that it’s a different thing altogether when it comes to indecent proposals. In an interview with Marian, she said that she would not be shocked if ever she receives one for this really happens in real life, but she stresses that she’d rather be friends with them than be anything else. With regard to the money that they would possibly give her, the Filipina Marimar was quoted as saying, “If they would just give it to the poor families, I would be much happier.”
MARIMAR is highest-rated primetime telenovela in the Philippines today. The weeknight melodrama has posted consistently high Mega Manila ratings peaking to as high as 47.9% on October 23, 2007, and surpassing even the original Mexican telenovela which aired in the Philippines in the late 90's starring Mexican TV actress Thalia.
