Today cracks a milestone in the Los Angeles LIVE Project. I'm not talking about this site. I am referring to the massive master plan that is being rolled out south of Downtown Los Angeles with the finished capstone opening today: The Nokia Theatre, which is now not only a European pandemic of a cellphone, but is a 7,000 capacity theatre boasting a 14,000 square foot stage, the largest one of its kind in Southern California.
The Eagles and The Dixie Chicks will open the Theatre tonight, October 18, 2007 and the 2007 fall schedule of events include a few of my favorites: Anita Baker, Neil Young and others. What's good about the Nokia theatre is the layout. There is no seat that is more than 210 feet away from the stage, at whatever price range. It will give the crowd a feeling of being in a small venue club. And this is only the start. Los Angeles Mayor Villaraigosa is sure that the Los Angeles LIVE master plan will outclass even Times Square in New York.
In a revitalization effort that mirrors the massive resurrection of Times Square in New York City over the past decade, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) broke ground on L.A. Live, a $1.7 billion tourist-oriented “sports-entertainment” hub. The plan features a 55-story convention center and hotel, 7,100-seat theater, broadcast facilities, 14-screen movie theater and nearly a dozen restaurants and clubs.
